Tip to keep your make-up sponges clean

Today I want to share a tip with you that will keep your make-up sponges dirt free and in mint condition. I learnt this during my first year of university. Back then being a student my money was very limited, so I had to learn different ways to save up money. This trick was one of them!

One of my friends, who was doing her Fine Arts degree, mentioned that a lot of painters used this method to clean their brushes. It is very simple and you will find that the results are AWESOME!

Things that you will need are:

-washing up liquid (I usually buy Fairy Antibacterial. They have some with different smells such as Eucalyptus or Aloe Vera & Cucumber that smell really nice!)

-olive oil

I know! It is as simple as that!

Step 1. Grab a deep plate or bowl and add a tablespoon of washing up liquid mixed with a tablespoon of olive oil.  If you are cleaning a lot of sponges, then you can increase the quantity but keep the proportions the same.

Step 2. Cover your make-up sponges with this mixture.

Step 3. Wash your make-up sponges under warm water. It is important that you squeeze them hard, quickly and quite a few times. At this point you will see the dirt coming out and your sponges will start to look much cleaner. Make sure that you keep squeezing them until all the washing-up liquid has come out!

Step 4. Leave the make-up sponges on a flat surface to dry over night. Sometimes it can take up a whole day for them to get completely dry.

Et voilà! Now you can have your make-up sponges looking as new as when you first bought them 🙂

That’s right! I use this method with my kabuki, blush and eyeshadow brushes too 🙂 However, when I clean these, I usually dry them using a hair dryer in order to keep them in a better shape 🙂 Thanks for stopping by. Love your blog! xxx
